There are so many reasons that therapy sessions should not be recorded. Privacy, ethics, data breaches, therapeutic relationship, etc. But we don't need to go into that here.
Therapists are right to feel uncomfortable about tools that want them to record sessions. And when tools like Quill exist, why record sessions? Just record a brief summary after the session, with only the details you want included in the note, and that's it -- AI can transform those details into a beautifully-written progress note.
Reviews for Quill about Not Recording Therapy Sessions
"Quill has proven to be an exceptionally simple and intuitive tool, especially considering its $20‑per‑month price point. A yearly subscription option with a discounted rate would be a welcome addition, but even without it, the value is clear.
Since incorporating Quill into my workflow, my anxiety about the wording and structure of my notes has decreased significantly. Being able to speak naturally and have Quill transform my dictation into a polished, professional note has streamlined my documentation process in a meaningful way. One of the major advantages for me is that Quill does not record sessions or store audio to train its AI. That commitment to privacy provides genuine peace of mind and aligns with the ethical boundaries I maintain in my practice.
I have already recommended Quill to a colleague who struggles to keep up with notes due to a demanding schedule, and I anticipate continuing to recommend Quill. Quill has also increased my overall efficiency, allowing me to see more clients without falling behind on documentation. At this time, I have no complaints and consider it a highly effective tool for clinicians seeking a straightforward, reliable note‑taking solution."
"I never thought I'd find an AI based tool that met my ethical standards (i.e. no in-vivo recording that is held in the Cloud, a separate platform not tied to TherapyAppointment, minimal assumptions and doesn't guess). I've promoted this tool with two colleagues who had the same ethical concerns as me and they are now fans of Quill as well. You're truly a wonderful service for me in terms of time saving, in lessening my avoidance of charting, and in improving my overall work satisfaction. (I won't even tell you how far behind I used to get in electronic submission even though my paper notes taken in session were very good!)"
"Quill has helped me so much with getting my documentation completed without spending the extra time having to type and format notes. I love that it is so simple and doesn't add anything to my notes that I didn't state in my summary. I am not comfortable with other apps that record whole sessions and turn them into clinical notes so this was a great option for me to save time and energy by being able to either dictate or type a short summary and have it transformed into a structured clinical note. It is also much more affordable than other apps I tried in the past that had more features that I really needed and I really appreciate that."
"This has been a total game changer for me, who loves doing therapy but gets so behind on notes! I feel so lucky to have found this platform, and find that it strikes the perfect balance of using AI to assist, without the complications of recording sessions or automatically generating notes. This really hits the sweet spot, and I am so grateful."
"I've tried a ton of different AI therapy note programs and this is by far the most simple but effective one! I never felt comfortable with recording sessions so I love that I can just dictate or write notes from my session, and it's done. I also just recently created an assessment template which I used today for the first time - it works great! Thank you for a simple, yet quality program!"
"Quill has been a game changer for me. As I've ramped up my private practice, I found myself dreading the increasing amount of time slogging through session notes. I work with special populations (LGBTQIA+, military and law enforcement, and folks with complex trauma) and am not comfortable with AI options that require sessions to be recorded. I gave Quill a try and was amazed at how intuitive it is. I love that it's a small business and that I receive almost immediate replies whenever I have a question or suggestion. My notes are down to 5-6 minutes each and I no longer feel angst about getting them done at the end of the day. If you're exploring your AI note support options, Quill is the secure, affordable choice to consider."
"I love Quill and so do the therapists that work for me! Very rarely do I have to make adjustments to what Quill formulates for me as far as the note goes, and that’s a great thing! I appreciate that the system doesn’t save our notes (to worry about HIPAA and privacy/confidentiality) and that even though we are using AI we are not actually recording in the session."
