Commitment to Privacy

Privacy between therapist and client is our top priority.

Quill is built on a foundation of ethics and privacy. We understand that therapists handle incredibly sensitive information, because clients trust them with that sensitive information. We take our responsibility to protect that data seriously. Our commitment to privacy goes beyond compliance -- it's a core value that shapes every decision we make about how our platform operates, which features we add, and how we proceed into the future.

We do not record therapy sessions.

First and foremost, unlike many other therapy AI note-taking solutions, Quill does not record your therapy sessions. We made this choice deliberately (and we continue to stand by this choice each and every day) because we know it's simply not necessary to deliver exceptional and efficient clinical notes.

By not recording sessions in the first place, we eliminate entire categories of privacy risks that other therapy AI note-taking platforms must contend with -- risks from data breaches, subpoenas, legal discovery requests, and unauthorized access. When recordings don't exist, they can't be compromised, demanded, or misused. This fundamental design decision at Quill provides you and your clients with the strongest possible privacy protection. If the recording and transcription literally never exist in the first place, it cannot be compromised.

Sensitive data is not stored.

Privacy is integrated into Quill from the ground up. We've designed our system to minimize data collection and retention, ensuring that we only process the information necessary to generate high-quality therapy notes.

We don't store the session summaries you submit, nor do we store the resulting documentation that's generated. This approach significantly reduces privacy risks and ensures that sensitive information remains under your control at all times.

We do not train AI with your data.

Because we don't store your session information, we cannot -- and do not -- use it to train our AI models. Your clinical data is never used to improve our algorithms or train LLMs. As mentioned above, each note generation is processed in real-time and then discarded from our systems. This means your provided information is never repurposed, analyzed, or retained for any purpose beyond creating the specific therapy note you requested.

We are HIPAA compliant.

Feel free to read more about how we're HIPAA compliant. But remember, HIPAA is only the baseline. Privacy and security is not guaranteed with HIPAA-compliant platforms, which is why we continue to make privacy-focused decisions at Quill (and avoid some risks altogether by not recording therapy sessions).

We serve therapists, not investors.

We do not have investors. We have not received funding from venture capitalists or other sources. Quill continues to operate and expand because therapists use it, trust it, and tell other therapists about it.

Our decisions are guided by therapists and their clients, and nobody else. We don't have other external influences, like a board room full of investors who want to see ever-increasing returns from their investment in the mental health space.

It's just Jon and Jen. And you -- the therapists.

Our commitment to privacy means that therapists can use Quill with confidence, knowing that their discussions in the therapy office remain between just them and their clients. And clients can feel better, knowing that their most private thoughts do not exist on a server somewhere. The client and therapist can continue to talk openly, without worrying about their conversation being shared with anyone else.

If you have any questions about this topic, please send us an email. It's an important topic, maybe the most important one when it comes to choosing an AI note platform, so we want to answer your questions.

Educating therapists and clients alike about privacy.

Regardless of Quill, or whether you try our free trial, or whether you decide to subscribe, we want you to be informed about the risks and drawbacks of recording therapy sessions. Truly, we didn't know we'd be pulled into this discussion (we never once even considered recording sessions when we first started Quill). But here we are.

Whether you're a therapist, or a client, a parent who has a child in therapy, or someone considering therapy, please consider the real-world implications of recording therapy sessions. You don't have to consent to AI, transcribing, or recording within the therapy session.

No recording, transcribing, or AI used during therapy sessions. This AI note-writing service is committed to protecting client privacy and confidentiality.

Note: You can get your own badge to put on your website here. Reassure clients that your conversations are private -- between you and them -- and stay within the therapy session.
