What is ambient listening?
Why are therapists and other clinicians (and clients and patients) being sold this marketing phrase?
Why are journalists and news organizations using this phrase too?
"Ambient listening" and "AI scribe" are two phrases that avoid saying the real thing:
1) Your interaction is recorded.
2) That audio recording is transcribed.
3) That transcription is then processed by AI and transformed into some sort of documentation, progress note, etc.
4) The recording and transcription may or may not be discarded at some point in time.
Nobody would describe a tape recorder as an "ambient listener".
Please stop regurgitating these tech companies' marketing phrases that downplay what their products actually do -- and (conveniently...) put people at ease and provide a false sense of security.
Quill is not an ambient listener, because we do not record or transcribe therapy sessions. We have no presence in the therapy session itself. Therapists only use Quill after the session is over -- and they provide their own details and observations using their own clinical judgement... not AI's "clinical judgement".
If you haven't already, give it a try! We offer a free trial to generate notes and other therapy documentation, and thousands of therapists appreciate how we prioritize the privacy of therapy!
