Some therapists like detailed notes. Others prefer to keep things brief. The Note Length setting lets you choose.
What is the Note Length setting?
Note Length controls how much detail Quill includes in your generated notes. You have two options:
Normal -- The note generally reflects the overall level of detail and length that was provided in the session summary.
Extra Concise -- The details of the session summary are consolidated, extraneous details are removed, and even more succinct language is used.
How to change your note length
Step 1: Go to Note Preferences. You can access them on the note generation page (click "Edit Preferences") or on the My Account page.
Step 2: Find the Note Length section. You'll see two options: "Normal" and "Extra Concise".
Step 3: Click the option you prefer. If you tend to be a bit long-winded in your session summaries (no judgment -- we all have our styles), "Extra Concise" might be a good fit.
Step 4: Click "Save Preferences" and you're done. Quill will apply this setting to all future notes.
When to use each option
Normal works well if:
- You provide summaries with the right amount of detail already
- You want your notes to reflect the depth of your session summaries
- You need longer notes for insurance or compliance reasons
Extra Concise works well if:
- You tend to provide very detailed summaries but want shorter notes
- Your documentation requirements favor brevity
- You just prefer streamlined notes
Can I combine this with custom instructions?
Yes! Note Length and Custom Instructions work together. For example, you could set Note Length to "Normal" but add a custom instruction like:
Keep the plan section brief -- no more than two sentences.
This gives you granular control over which parts of your note are detailed and which are concise.
Experiment and adjust
Not sure which setting is right for you? Try generating a note with each option and compare the results. You can change this setting anytime, and it takes effect on the next note you generate (or regenerate).
