Finally, folks are paying attention to mental health!
Oops, I mean…
Tech companies and VC investors have noticed that there’s money to be made in mental health!
Millions and millions of dollars are being poured into the mental health industry. It’s big business. From AI “therapists” to AI scribes to “AI native” EHRs to giant 1099 therapy conglomerates, the smell of money is in the air.
So when a new product or service seems too good to be true, please follow the money.
If there are investors, those investors expect a return on that investment.
Ethics? Values? Best practices? Privacy and confidentiality? Sanctity of therapeutic relationships? An individual’s mental health in general? Those are all interesting points. And they can probably be worked into the PowerPoint presentation somewhere.
But what’s super important to these folks who recently stumbled upon mental health?
A graph showing revenue going up and to the right.
But at Quill?
It's just me and Jen. No investors. No VCs.
You, the therapists, fund Quill by subscribing to this service. And so you, the therapists, determine the direction we take next. We do not waiver in staying true to our values and ethics -- and maintaining privacy in therapy sessions. There's no pressure to take shortcuts to satisfy the investors, to build and introduce technologies and features that compromise these values and ethics... In a way, the therapists that use Quill are the investors!
Anyway, have a wonderful week!
Jon
