If you're a therapist in the US...
You'll have an NPI number.
And if you have an NPI number...
You'll probably end up on a few websites you didn't even know existed.
These NPI database sites (like NPIDB or NPIProfile) pull public information from the federal registry -- meaning they can automatically create pages for every licensed healthcare provider in the country. No sign-up, no verification, no therapist involvement needed.
If you give the internet public data... it'll make directories.
And if it makes directories... it'll want them to rank on Google.
And if they rank on Google... they'll start showing up when clients search for your name.
That's what we're seeing in this week's Therapist Search Report: these auto-generated NPI listings are climbing higher in search results. They're not particularly harmful or misleading (as far as I can tell), but they add a lot of noise -- making it harder for people to find the important information about you.
The fix? Claim your space. A verified LinkedIn page, a professional site, and a few trusted directory listings can easily outrank those data-driven profiles over time.
