Keeping on Eye on Therapist Profiles

Therapist Search Report Edition

Findatopdoc[dot]com just jumped into the top 30 therapist search results for the first time, and a lot of its therapist profiles appear to be generic placeholders with inaccurate hours. It’s worth checking whether your name is there and how it’s being presented.

Do most therapists work Monday through Friday, 9 to 5?

We’re going to guess... no.

In our weekly tracking of therapist search results, something unexpected happened: findatopdoc[dot]com suddenly surged in visibility. It has shown up in our dataset before, but always so far down the list that we honestly hadn’t paid much attention to it. This week, though, it jumped more than 2 points and officially entered the top 30 for the first time.

A lot of the profiles on findatopdoc[dot]com (not all, but many) are clearly placeholders. And “placeholder” is being generous. Quite a few include a cookie cutter bio like:

"[FIRST NAME] [LAST NAME] is a counselor in [CITY], [STATE]. [FIRST NAME] evaluates patients using many different procedures, in order to determine what treatments must be carried out in order to properly assess their symptoms. Counselors provide consultation for each patient and their families."

We’re no Sherlock Holmes, but we’re willing to bet therapists did not write that themselves.

The listed hours aren’t any better. Profile after profile shows:

Mon: 09:00 AM 05:00 PM
Tue: 09:00 AM 05:00 PM
Wed: 09:00 AM 05:00 PM
Thu: 09:00 AM 05:00 PM
Fri: 09:00 AM 05:00 PM
Sat: Closed
Sun: Closed

Knowing how varied therapists’ real schedules are, we’re pretty confident these aren’t accurate. And because many people look at hours before deciding who to contact, these placeholder listings risk misleading the very people trying to find help. (Especially if you’re one of the many therapists who offer Saturday hours and that matters to a future client.)

Here’s the bottom line: findatopdoc[dot]com isn’t new, but this is the first time it has ranked high enough to consistently appear in therapist name searches. And that makes it worth paying attention to... and worth checking to see whether your name is listed there.

We break down the details and the rest of this week’s shifts in the full report at TherapistSearchReport.com.
