Hear me out:
Maybe instead of building "AI therapists" to solve the mental health crisis, we instead:
- Destigmatize therapy.
- Make care easier to access.
- Pay therapists more.
- Lower barriers for people who want help.
The solution is not simulated empathy.
Oh, also, we can reduce gun violence, make our communities safer, address food insecurity, support housing stability, and work on other elements of our society that contribute to our current mental health crisis.
Let's divert the billions spent on "AI therapists" and spend it on these things instead?
